SPT - well, minus the S this week... LOL

This month's challenge provides us the opportunity to spend some time with ourselves. Lelly says, "This month we will consult our 100 lists. It's quite simple, really. On the 7th of the month post an SPT about item #7 on your list. On the 14th of the month, post an SPT about #14. And so on and so on.
My #14 reads: I'm proud to be an American, and I'm VERY patriotic.
I so wish I could have found MY picture of this below. I had to take one from online. In my personal photo that I took, the sun was out, and you could see more of the flags.
Ben and I flew into Maryland 4 DAYS after 9/11/01.
We went to the Capital and saw all the sites. Once of the most heartwrenching, yet patriotically inspiring sights was when we went by the Washington Memorial. There, in a complete circle, were a field of flags flying at half-mast. The cool wind was whipping through the air, and in the silence you could hear the flags waving in remembrance of the lives lost. It was a moment of awe, of reflection; there were so many brave Americans who lost their lives. There were many who voluntarily gave their lives to try and save others.
I have always been proud to be an American. Grateful that I was born to this great continent of freedom and peace. When I was newly married I didn't understand how some people came to tears about their country. After September 11th, and increasingly over time, I have become more emotional than I thought I ever would be. I can barely make it through the Star Spangled Banner without the greatest sense of love and pride in this great nation. I get a knot in my throat when I see a man or woman in uniform. Surely, this is God's blessed land. I am so touched, and honored that I get to be a part of this nation.

I loved the feeling that was all around after 9/11 and it is sad that it is gone now! I love to see when all the flags are on the ground at cemetery's. I wish more people would put flags out on certain holiday's! Remember when the Scouts would come around and do it as a fund raiser...what happened to that? I had to go get my own flag this year! Slackers!

From SPT - I would love to go to see some of the memorials from 9/11 It really is something that I want to do. I had always wanted to go to New York but my desire is even stronger now.

So very true. I echo your thoughts. That must have been such an experience so soon after 9/11.
