Here are the pictures from the Beach Palooza obstacle course 5k we did this past weekend. I want to post pictures from our whole trip, but Rachael has most of those on her phone and I need to get the pictures from her before I can do so!
My friend Emalee told me about the "race" and I told Rachael and we decided we were totally going for it! The race is sponsored by Mike's Hard Lemonade (ha ha... yeah, we donated our drinks to someone else) and it's a 5k with 10 obstacles that is set up on the beach.
Here is Emalee, Me, and Rachel before the race. Yes, I know that isn't gramatically correct, but it's in picture order, okay? LOL
Here is the starting line. You can see the smoke from the coals they had lit on fire. (They are at the finish line)
This is the noodle forrest. What you can't see is that there are elastic lines going through different dirrections, so it was like getting through chinese jumpropes while going through the noodles.
Next came these weird yellow flaps. I personally thought they were kind of lame...but whatever...
Next was the treacherous trench. But for some reason I don't have a picture of that... Rachael must have it. Before this we "ran" on the shore where the water lapped up onto our shoes. I put ran in parenthesis because although I had every intention of jogging a bit of this race, the soft sand paired with the heavy humidity did NOT agree with my asthma. I am totally going to ask my Dr if there is a better kind of inhaler for me. My body could have kept going, but I REALLY dislike feeling like I am going to fall over from inability to breathe. :o( This was a hilly portion that was just funny to try and jump down.
Next was a series of holes in walls that we had to get through. It started with a hole you had to bend down to crawl through, went to a medium one, then to this tall one, and back to a medium height one. It was seriously fun, even though it unloaded a wad of wood glue on my hand.
Next was lighthouse leap. The first two hops were fine, but the third one was FAR! I mean like NO JEN YOU ARE NOT GOING TO EVEN ATTEMPT TO JUMP THIS THING OR YOU WILL BREAK SOMETHING far. Look, I'm 5' 3 1/2" on a good day. I can't jump crazy far. So Emalee took pity on my and was my "spotter" while I jumped. I did make it... I actually almost over-jumped it and fell off the other side.
This was the "sea-saw" obstalce. Let me preface this by saying I am EXTREMELY afraid of heights. Even small ones. Emalee laughed her butt off at me because in the middle was the highest part and I was too scared to walk down, so I crawled on my hands and knees backward until I got to the plank I'm walking down in this photo.
We knew we were almost done when we came to the giant beach ball portion of the run. These were totally fun, and I could have stayed in there for a little while longer.
Here are the fiery coals. Two lines you had to jump over.
By this point Emalee had run ahead, and Rachael and I had taken off our shoes to finish. The sand in your shoes was a bit too much for comfort. Funny thing... we finished the run, but we had given Emalee's mom our shoes to hold so we didn't have to take them through the water. Um... our race timing chips were on our shoes! LOL I went to look at our time, but we aren't on the list... ha ha! Good thing we took pictures for proof!
Last but not least was the arctic chill water obstacle, or whatever it was called. Not only was this water COLD, but it was deeper than it looked when you went in. I stepped in only to slip all the way into the water. I ended up drenched from the neck down. In the back of the picture you can see some ice that hadn't melted yet that they had added to the water. It was freezing, but it felt great!
Here we are with our "Finisher's Medals". I was soaked to the bone. My tie-dyed shirt even inked my arm with blue. Yes, I'm THAT white. Ha ha... although I did get a nice base of a base of a base tan that day. ;o)
So that's our 5k! I am certain I will be making it an annual event. Next year we are doing a costume theme I think. People dress up for this race. We had characters from The Little Mermaid by us when we finished. It was way fun! Thanks Emalee, for telling me about the race, and inviting us to join you! I can't speak for Rachael, but I know I'm in again for next year! :o)
