Spinal Tap

Well, one day I got a call from Brenden's school that he had a fever, so I loaded up the kids and headed over to pick him up. When we got there he had a fever of about 101. I took him home and sent him up to his bed. He wasn't even up there an hour when he called me from his cell phone (I was downstairs) and he was saying how he was stuck in a game and he couldn't get out of it. He was really upset and I couldn't figure out what was going on until it dawn on me that he was hallucinating! I took his temperature and it was 102, even after taking Motrin. I ran him over to the pediatrician (he had never hallucinated before) and by the time we got there his temperature was 103. The doctor checked him over and gave him Tylenol on top of the Motrin and we were waiting to check his temperature again. About 45 minutes later his temperature had gone to 103.5 so the doctor called the pediatric emergency room and the doctor there told us to come right away. They wanted to make sure he didn't have meningitis. They ran all kinds of tests, and in the end they did a spinal tap on Brenden and although I wasn't allowed in the room when they did it, I was told he was so brave. It was the worst 15 minutes of my life, not being able to be in that room with him when he was going through something so painful. I don't know how parents do it who have children with chronic illnesses. THANKFULLY his test results came back negative for meningitis, and they say he just had a really bad case of strep.
